As the UAV industry continues to evolve, safety remains a paramount concern. Ensuring that drones operate within the highest safety standards is not just a regulatory requirement but a commitment to the reliability and trust that users place in these technologies. At Aero Systems West (ASW), in collaboration with Nippon Kayaku, we are leading the charge in delivering cutting-edge UAV safety systems through our Parasafe product line.
Recently, Parasafe achieved significant milestones with two EX approvals granted by the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) for our advanced actuator systems. These approvals, dated May 25, 2022 (EX2021122563) and July 19, 2024 (EX2020102108), reflect our ongoing dedication to meeting and exceeding industry standards.

The Importance of EX Approvals
EX approvals are critical for ensuring that our products, specifically the Parasafe actuators, are recognized for their safety and compliance with federal regulations. These approvals classify our actuators as “Safety devices, electrically initiated” under the UN3268 classification, ensuring they meet the stringent standards required for use in UAV applications.
The first approval (EX2021122563) covers the Multi-Purpose Actuators Design Types CA1201 and CA0601, highlighting our rigorous packaging and handling protocols that secure the actuators during transportation. The second and more recent approval (EX2020102108) pertains to the Parasafe type LDS003, further underscoring our commitment to safety and innovation in the UAV space.
Setting the Stage for Upcoming Releases
With these approvals in place, Parasafe is strategically positioned to introduce a new wave of safety systems designed for the UAV industry. Our upcoming product releases, backed by these EX approvals, will provide enhanced safety features that align with the latest industry regulations. This not only strengthens our product offering but also ensures that our solutions are ready to meet the growing demand for compliant, reliable UAV safety systems.
As we prepare for these launches, the importance of regulatory compliance cannot be overstated. Our ongoing work with ASTM F38 and our alignment with the FAA’s upcoming NPRM for beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) operations further positions Parasafe as a leader in UAV safety.
